Who we Are

Who We are

Bread of Life Church is a small, diverse, deeply committed community that knows itself to be called to live so that something unique of Christ incarnate can be seen in our life together. Through covenantal relationship with each other, through ministry with and to all who suffer—particularly to those who are the last, the least and the lost, we serve to help grow the Realm of God on earth. We commit our lives in response to this call.

Our church is committed to live our call with a particular emphasis on the economic dimension of life.   There is enough bread; life was created with the resources needed to create a world that works for everyone, and for creation itself to thrive.

But most moments of human history – including the present moment – have been marred by inequitable distribution of resources and widely disproportionate experiences of abundance. Without systems and practices of fairness in place, life inevitably finds patterns that benefit groups of privilege at the expense of others.

The profound broad-based inequities in wealth and well-being existing in our communities and our country are also reflections of the historical expropriation of land from native peoples, on the long history of enslavement and oppression of black African men and women, and the unfair exploitation of immigrants and laborers. Our economic systems have also generated critical threats to the earth’s intricate systems of balance and renewal.

We believe that God is continually calling all beings into covenantal relationships of love, equality and justice. In our gathered life, we will offer support to local efforts that to provide alternatives to a culture that prioritizes financial accumulation and concentration.  In our economic focus, we are followers of Jesus, whose economic and political missions were the very foundation of his spiritual mission.
